Uproot Farm is a small, Certified Organic, diversified vegetable farm about an hour north of the Twin Cities, between Princeton and Cambridge, MN. In 2018 we'll grow over forty types of vegetables on two acres plus two large hoophouses. You can find our produce at both the Fulton and Kingfield Farmers Markets in Minneapolis as well as City Center Market Co-op in Cambridge, plus a few Twin Cities restaurants. Additionally, our Certified Organic plant starts are available for purchase online.
2018 marks our eighth growing season, and this year brings big changes for the farm. At the end of 2017 we stopped offering traditional delivered CSA shares. Moving forward, we'll focus solely on farmers markets, our Farmers Market CSA, and wholesale.
In addition to veggies, at Uproot we're growing habitat for pollinators and tending the ground with soil microbes and a robust soil ecology in mind, knowing that these are the ingredients for healthy veggies.
Uproot was born in 2011 after Sarah Woutat spent three years apprenticing on organic CSA farms in both Connecticut and Minnesota. She bought what is now Uproot in the Fall of 2010 and began growing veggies for CSA, markets, and wholesale in 2011. Over the past seven years, Uproot has employed seven aspiring farmers (all of whom are now either running their own farms, working on farms, or pursuing advanced degrees in agriculture) and has served hundreds of families through CSA.
When the farm began, Sarah was a solo farmer and spent all of her time farming and thinking about farming. In 2015, she decided to open up her life and in walked David (whom she had met at the Fulton farmers market in 2011). Their daughter, Anna Faye, was born in July of 2016. This addition to her life has led Sarah to scale back the farm. Sarah is excited to spend more time with Anna in the fields, to focus on a smaller farm, and to talk recipes with her customers every week at the farmers markets.
